LIM

The Maritime Engineering Laboratory (LIM / UPC) is a Research Centre located at the Barcelona School of Civil Engineering of the UPC (Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering). The research work carried out covers the main physical processes that occur in the coastal zone and continental shelf, encompassing both the emerged and submerged parts of the land-sea boundary, with special emphasis on the interactions of these processes with typical civil engineering infrastructures at sea.
The work of LIM/UPC is carried out in both basic and applied research, within the following fields:
- Coastal oceanography and ocean engineering
- Functional and structural analysis of port and coastal structures
- Physicochemical quality of coastal waters
- Marine climate: variability and climate change
This research activity benefits public bodies and national and foreign private companies through the UPC Technology Transfer Centre. It also contributes to maintaining up-to-date teaching based on real case studies from our coast. The result is reflected in the abundant production of publications and communications carried out by the group.
In recognition of this work, LIM/UPC has been recognised as a Singular Scientific and Technical Facility (ICTS) by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness. The CIEM hydraulic flume managed by the group was recognised as a singular facility of the European Union in 1996.
