Project description
DANUBIUS-IP is a 36-month Coordination and Support Action to support the continued development of DANUBIUS-RI, an environmental research infrastructure that connects rivers and seas, as it moves towards its Operational Phase.
The project proposes 7 work packages in two parallel streams which, together, will enable it to:
• develop a new governance structure for the RI as it moves towards DANUBIUS-ERIC;
• enhance the RI’s ICT potential to enable the virtual provision of key services;
• implement the Science and Innovation Agenda with agile, high-quality scientific services;
• demonstrate the value of the RI through examples of the unique services it can offer to users across Europe and internationally;
• expand the DANUBIUS-RI community and strengthen its position in the European and international environmental landscape;
• ensure that the potential of DANUBIUS-RI to have significant social and economic impact is widely communicated.
DANUBIUS-IP is coordinated by GeoEcoMar Romania and brings together 25 experienced partners from 14 European countries with complementary areas of expertise in marine and freshwater research fields. The project seeks to address recent recommendations from ESFRI and High-Level Expert Group reports on DANUBIUS-RI and to contribute significantly to the expected outcomes and broader impacts of the Horizon Europe Programme.
As such, the project considers the importance of the sustainability of financial commitments, the need to assess the funding model, and the need to strengthen the visibility of the RI. DANUBIUS-IP will also promote the effectiveness of an integrated and interdisciplinary approach covering the entire “river-sea continuum” to fill existing gaps in the research and innovation landscape, addressing key societal challenges in ecosystems affected by anthropogenic pressures and climate change.
